The theoretical research underscores the importance of reducing sedentary behavior and adopting a more active lifestyle. The excessive screen time and repetitive movements associated with computer use, particularly in the workplace, is prompting a rethink of the current everyday human-computer interaction.

The practical design research culminated in an interactive spatial installation that integrates physical movement into the workflow of graphic designers, especially in desktop publishing. This installation challenges conventional expectations and fosters curiosity, encouraging playful exploration. By engaging the physical presence, perception, and emotions of designers, it mitigates the disadvantages of prolonged computer use and stimulates creativity while promoting physical activity. Ultimately, it seeks to provide relief from the overwhelming virtual experiences characteristic of modern life.

Integrating various criteria within this research proved to be a complex endeavor, particularly given the limited prior knowledge beyond editorial design. The critical elements were the interaction and intended movements, requiring the careful integration of suitable sensors into the objects to trigger computer feedback. These sensors had to be embedded in a way that ensured their functionality and durability during movement. The objects' shapes and materials were chosen to facilitate desired interactions or at least be intriguing enough to encourage engagement. Moreover, the real-time correlation between object interaction and computer feedback requires further exploration. Future research could benefit from incorporating more choreographic elements and developing a more nuanced dramaturgy on screen to enhance the overall interactive experience.     

The technical realization and object construction faced numerous challenges, leading to delays that prevented a comprehensive usability test with the target group. Consequently, there has not been sufficient empirical studies to determine which interactions are perceived as enjoyable versus annoying. Nevertheless, the functionality and interaction of the objects were continuously evaluated based on the author's experience as an editorial designer, with input from artist and designer colleagues to refine the objects and their movement sequences.

InShape represents a synthesis of material and object studies, sensor research, creative coding and movement. It illustrates the continuous dialogue between research and practice, showing how they mutually influence each other. 
The installation serves as a starting point for discussions and paves the way for future object-based interfaces.
